This project’s idea is a direct communication between objects - a human body and a chemical substance. The performer is in a glass tank. The tank is slowly filled with steams which appear from this substance’s gas (fog) phase. This substance is going up from the bottom of the tank, slowly, sometimes in form of clouds. The performer finds herself in the epicenter of this, and the substance precipitates on her body, gradually building polycrystals, dendrites. The performer feels every stage of the contact with the substance in a different way. When the substance contacts the body, she feels cold, but it is not real cold, it is just irritation of skin receptors. The performer needs to learn how to exist in this environment. Some practices aimed at shifting attention within body do help sustain the most difficult stages of being in the tank.

For 60-80 minutes, the performer is in a direct, subtle, quantum contact with the substance, experiencing its various stages physically and consciously. When the tank stage is over, the substance is washed off the body with water and the body recovers. The substance stays on the body as an invisible, thin but perceivable layer. The performer feels its action under her clothes as the environment changes. It takes about three hours for the substance to fully evaporate. The product of this performance is a live evidence of interaction between the human body and the substance as it changes from the gas phase into crystal phase and then finally evaporates on the human body. There is a circle of transformation: the plant (menthol) becomes a crystal, then a steam, then again a plant (dendrite). This work is about hypersensitivity, about the of consciousness and subconsciousness with matter, about a new experience of the body that arises in this action.
