RECOGNITION

Performance. Visualizing  Air. Studying  s y n e s t h e s i a.

Aristotle''s treatise "On the Soul" already expounded on possible "common sense". During the performance, the participants experience smell as if it were something visual and try synchronizing their feelings. Does the smell have colour, form, structure, or texture? What predetermines the body''s choice of certain molecules from the olfactory stimulus space? To what extent is the smell we catch preconditioned by our memories, experience, or emotions?

For 6 hours specific scents sprayed float in the air. It is the mixture of scents created by the artists from the lab. The participants feel, recognize and visualize the olfactory space. It is necessarily uninterrupted visualization which presupposes complete silence, with discussions, conversations or debate forbidden. The scents are not toxic. The performance is accompanied by the musical interpretation of the olfactory space by composer Vladimir Gorlinsky. The soundscape is also subjected to recognition. The performance took place in the Performative Practice Place (PPP) on April 24, 2016. Moscow
